Where the data comes from

ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS are published by CMS and the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics; HCPCS Level II is published by CMS. All three are US government works in the public domain. Codes here are loaded directly from the official release files, with every row traceable to the file and date it came from — nothing is retyped or paraphrased.

ICD-10 updates annually (effective October 1); HCPCS updates quarterly.

Common questions

Is this really free?

Yes. The site is supported by advertising, so there is no account, subscription or lookup limit.

Are these the official codes?

They are the official descriptors from the current published release of each code set — see the release name and effective date on each card above. This is a reference tool, not medical or billing advice, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by CMS.

What does "billable" mean?

A billable code is specific enough to submit on a claim. A non-billable code is a category header — real, but you must code to a more specific child code underneath it.

Do you have CPT codes?

No. CPT codes and descriptors are copyrighted by the American Medical Association and cannot be republished without a license, so this site covers the public-domain code sets only.
